Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often. Anything else? Call (313) 919-0228 or email info@momentumpilatesstudio.com.
What is pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact method of exercise that builds core strength, flexibility, and body awareness. At Momentum, we use spring-loaded equipment — the reformer, tower, and Wunda chair — to add resistance and support. Every movement is controlled, precise, and scalable to your level.
I have never done pilates. Where should I start?
Start with Momentum Signature or Momentum Flow. Both classes scale to all levels, and the instructor will walk you through the reformer before class. Arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first class so we can give you a proper tour.
What should I wear?
Fitted or semi-fitted workout clothing that lets you move without restriction. Avoid loose shorts or baggy tops — they can catch on the equipment. Grippy socks are required on the reformer and chair.
What should I bring?
Water and grippy socks (for sale at the front desk if you forget). Everything else is provided. Lockers and changing areas are onsite.
How is pilates different from yoga?
Yoga focuses on flexibility, breath, and holding shapes. Pilates focuses on controlled movement, spring-loaded resistance, and strengthening the deep core. Both help the body move better. Many clients do both.
What is the difference between reformer, tower, and chair?
The reformer is a sliding platform with pulleys and springs used for the majority of our classes. The tower is a wall-mounted unit with springs, ideal for strength and alignment work. The Wunda chair is a compact piece that emphasizes balance, power, and control.
How often should I take class?
Most clients see results practicing two to three times a week. Your body changes fastest when pilates becomes a rhythm, not a one-off. If you can only make it once a week, start there and build from it.
How do I book a class?
All reservations happen through the MindBody app. Download the app via our Schedule page, browse the live class list, and tap to reserve. Class packs and memberships also live inside the app.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel through the MindBody app at least the window shown on your class listing (typically 12 hours in advance). Late cancels and no-shows may be charged. The policy protects other clients who want the spot.
Do you offer private sessions?
Yes. Private and semi-private sessions are available by request. Email info@momentumpilatesstudio.com or call the studio to schedule.
Is pilates safe during pregnancy or after an injury?
Pilates is often recommended for prenatal and postnatal fitness and for recovery from injury — but only with medical clearance and a qualified instructor. Tell your instructor before class starts so they can modify exercises for you. If you are unsure, consult your healthcare provider first.
Where are you located?
